About the book:
Philippine markets are not just spaces where goods are sold and services offered. They are people spaces. The book catches the resonance of the lives of these persons. The markets are memorable for each has a distinctive “character”. Markets are lively, vibrant places that throb with changes — spaces in the present progressive.
While the text and photographs take the reader to “another world”, the book also makes accessible very useful information about regional dishes broken down according to province or ethnolinguistic group; the name of markets in the different provinces of the country, what are sold in them, what can be purchased there to take home as paslubong, and for some even the hours of the day that they are open. Finally, there are the surprising and at the same time, delectable archival photos of markets, traditional songs, proverbs, and a contemporary poem that relate to markets.
